As you can see (or not, if you are on a staff pc), I've managed to put in the "rock androll library" video from YouTube. It was fun visiting the site, though waiting for a video to load fully before it plays can put you off a bit. I chose this vidoeo simply because it was fun and as I said earlier, when time is a constraint, you just don't have the luxury of browsing endlessly.
All in all, an enjoyable exercise.
One day, when I retire, maybe I'll spend more time exploring...!

Google docs -- dinner invitation
http://docs.google.com/Presentation?id=d7fr2wz_0dbvrxrcj
I couldn't access Zoho Writer, so off I went to good ole google which allowed me to sign in, create a document and post it to my blog.
If you click on the link above, you can come over for dinner!!
Interesting to see how much you can do by creating documents on the web, share them with others etc. Lots of advantages and potential to be creative.

Week 7
I tried to have a good look around Facebook, Bebo and MySpace... since I don't subscribe to any of them but hear them talked about all over the place.
My cruel offspring probably had the most fun, guffawing over my "illiteracy" about social net-working, as they watched me navigate my way through all this.
It was quite interesting, most importantly for the fact that you have to keep up technologically with your kids everyday!!
And from a librarian's point of view, it's important that we keep up with our customers' needs and habits.
So, yes, it was an interesting introduction... though I personally feel that the word "friend" has lost much of it's meaning on sites like this.
Can anyone have 852 friends??

Tagging, bookmarks etc.
Not so delicious for me, I'm afraid.
Yes, I can see how some could really go for this, but I do prefer the 'personal' aspect of socializing, discussion and exchange of ideas.
I did go to some of the more popular bookmark listss, such as flickr services, blogging libraries and the delicious cook book.
I'm not sure how far I could go in using this as a research tool.

Wiki-wiki...
Wikis are great, but like most things, they too have their positives and negatives... up-to-date information, but not necessarily contributed by a 'reliable' source.
I never realised that it was so easy to edit a wiki page!
I personally use Wikipedia a lot for homework reference questions and usually find it quite authoritative and accurate.
The Book lover's wiki was interesting ... a good way to get news and reviews of books, especially at those times when you need a dose of inspiration on what to read/ recommend!

Technology thrills
I think that technology is:
thrilling - tiresome, bewildering -simplistic, life-enhancing - soul-destroying, time-saving - time-wasting, attractive - dull, expensive - throwaway and forever changing.

Bike Friends
I'm sure these gorgeous lads could fit another friend on!
That's how it is in India sometimes... the more the merrier, space no problem!

end of week 2
After much clicking, ticking, saving and mouse-handling, I think I have finally completed discovery exercise 2 i.e. subscribed to 10 newsreads and created a public bloglines account ... phew!
Despite myself, I found it all quite interesting, in the way that a knotty thread just has to be undone or a piece of food stuck in a tooth simply has to come out.
Who knows, I might start enjoying this, though I don't know if there are enough hours in my day or enough space in my mind for all this "socializing" and seemingly endless sources of information/infotainment!

Bloglines
Homework for week 2.
I do believe I have created a Bloglines account. Yipee...
It seemed simple enough.
I'm not sure about subscribing to the newsfeeds though. All I did was tick some boxes (the ones that interested me) and clicked on SUBSCRIBE. And yes, I did read through the tutorial, steps 1 - 3 in which there was a lot of copying and pasting to do...so I think I must have got lost somewhere along the way.
Anyone out there who can help me? :)

Hello World
Hmmm...what came first?
The chicken or the egg?
RSS or Atomfeeds?
I hope I get to understand all this a bit better.
See you soon.
